Medical advances in China: understand the possibilities
01
CAR-T cell therapy research
The multicentre CARTIFAN-1 phase II study in China reported responses to cilta-cel in previously treated multiple myeloma. This specialist treatment can cause serious adverse effects and requires strict eligibility assessment.
Zanubrutinib, developed by BeiGene, received US FDA approval for CLL/SLL in 2023. Its international development illustrates China’s contribution to blood-cancer medicines; an oncologist must assess individual suitability.
The CLASS-01 randomised trial at 14 Chinese centres supported laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for selected patients with locally advanced gastric cancer. Three-year disease-free survival met its prespecified noninferiority criterion versus open surgery. Suitability depends on stage and an experienced surgical team.
The receiving hospital confirms the specialist, appointment, eligibility and itemised costs. Research achievements do not guarantee access or an outcome. Clinical care is provided by licensed medical institutions.
